The Dayton Police Department now has a new service for those with old or unused prescription medications in their homes. Dayton PD, in cooperation with the Houston-Galveston Area Council, now offers medication disposal at the police department, located at 2004 N. Cleveland St. The service is available 24/7 and is as simple as dropping the medications off to be securely stored. Once the box is full, the liner will be shipped to a facility and destroyed.
The improper disposal of expired or unused medications is a serious concern for not only the health and safety of the public by reducing chances for abuse and accidental overdose, but also for the health and safety of our waterways and drinking water supplies.
Prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, including legally held controlled drugs and narcotics (Schedule II, III, IV, V only) can be placed in the receptacle box. Needles, other medical waste, batteries, pharmacy inventory, Schedule I controlled substances and illegal drugs are NOT accepted.
